Summary
editDescription0121521 Teli Ka Mandir Gwalior Fort Madhya Pradesh 147.jpg |
English: The Teli ka Mandir is a 9th century Hindu temple and one of the tallest temples found in the Gwalior Fort. Some scholars date it to the 8th century.
It is one of the uncommon surviving examples of Valabhi architecture with barrel vaulted sikhara, one whose proportions are marked for its musical harmonics. Its Hindu artwork is selectively placed in bands around the temple exterior, and around actual or faux door frames. These include Shaiva, Vaishnava, Shakta, Vedic deities and Hindu river goddesses. Almost all artwork shows signs of natural erosion as well as considerable deliberate mutilation. Parts of the temple has been restored in the 19th century from the ruins found then. This is a national monument of India, protected and managed by ASI. |
