Description

A pair of BB9400 electric locos in the distinctive livery unique to this class. They were reguar workers on the line from Neussargues to Béziers (Ligne des Causses) built by the Chemins de Fer du Midi. Electrified back in the 1930s being one of the oldest routes in France to see electric traction.

Back at the time of this visit, the line still had through trains from Paris. Seen here on 9 April 1987, BB9491 and behind BB9489 have worked the 21:57 from Paris Lyon to Béziers having worked from Neussargues. A journey of well over 12 hours through some spectacular scenery. The line lost through trains some years ago and due to poor infrastructure has seen many sections closed for long periods and trains replaced by buses.
