| Description |
20 of these Swedish built locos were bought by Hungarian Railways (MÁV) in the early 1960s. Identical to the Di3s seen in Norway, there were restrictions on the numbers bought by MÁV simply because of communist government rulings. As such further diesel mainline locos were built in the USSR (M62) and later on Ganz-Mavag (M41 etc.) Popular with rail enthusiasts, they spent most of their operating life working around Lake Balaton. Seen here at Zalaegerszeg on 10 February 1993, M61 010 on train 951, 17:17 Zalaegerszeg to Budapest Déli pu. THe M61 would work via the north shore of Lake Balaton as far as Székesfehérvár where a V43 took over. However M61s would work all the way through to Budapest under the wires. |
