Description

Several examples of these BM69 EMUs dating back as far as the 1980s were still running in Norway both on Oslo local routes plus regional trains further west. One such example was the 36km long branch from Nelaug (on the Oslo to Stavanger Line -Sørlandsbanen) to Arendal. Known as the Arendalsbanen, the line was electrified in 1995 eliminating the use of DMUs in the south of Norway. Until electrification, the branch had a through sleeper carriage to and from Oslo which was attached to the Stavanger overnight train and hauled on the branch by the DMU.

Seen here is 3-car EMU set no. 69062 having arrived in on train 2509, 15:05 Nelaug to Arendal on 10 September 2019.
