Description
English: The Philips Headquarters is a four story office building designed by The Bureau D’Etudes Henri Chomette (BEHC), who had offices located in Paris (France), Abidjan (Ivory Coast), Addis Abeba (Ethiopia), Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso) and Cotonou (Benin). Upon Emperor Haile Selassie's proposal to host the new African Organisation in Addis Abeba, the city underwent a significant urban reform in the 1960’s. Henri Chomette was one of the prominent architects practicing in Addis Abeba during the 50’s and 60’s who has designed many post modern buildings in the city. The Philips Headquarters was commissioned by its Dutch owners and was constructed between 1965 and 1967. It was inaugurated by Emperor Haile Sellasie I in April 17, 1967.
