Description

KNIGHT’S FERRY, Calif. (Nov. 16, 2010) – “Sammy the Salmon” points the way to the second annual Stanislaus River Salmon Festival at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District’s Stanislaus River Parks here Nov. 14.

An estimated 3,000 people attended the free, family-friendly event, which was aimed at educating young people on the protection efforts for salmon and its habitat. More than 11,000 Chinook salmon returned to their spawning ground on the river during this year’s fall run, according to U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service habitat restoration coordinator J.D. Wikert, one of the festival coordinators.
