(Nov. 16, 2010) – Kate Dadey (right), a regulatory branch manager with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District, speaks to an attendee during the 8th Annual Habitat Conservation Planning Workshop here Nov. 16. Dadey and Sacramento District regulatory project manager Mary Pakenham-Walsh were on hand to explain how the Corps is streamlining its application process to develop wetland areas to maximize the benefit of local habitat conservation plans. “It’s good for the environment, it’s good for developers and it’s easier and faster for everybody,” Dadey said. The workshop brought together resource conservation planners and stakeholders from Lake Tahoe to the San Francisco Bay area to discuss ways to improve conservation of endangered species while allowing appropriate and compatible economic growth. Under the Clean Water Act, the Corps of Engineers is responsible for regulating activities that could affect waters of the United States. |
