Summary

Description FORT NORFOLK, Va. – Re-enactors read and sew inside the fort’s walls here June 9, 2012. Historic Fort Norfolk was officially re-opened for public visitation during OpSail 2012 Virginia, and during that time, re-enactors provided historical interpretation for the public. The Norfolk District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers had previously closed the more than 200-year-old fort for repairs. Fort Norfolk, home to the Norfolk District, is one of the last remaining 19 harbor-front forts authorized by President George Washington in 1794. (U.S. Army photo/Kerry Solan)
