Summary edit

Description 127-GW-902-73090: Guadalcanal Campaign, August 1942-January 1943. Marine Model. Bedecked with five and ten jewelry, grass skirt, walking-cane and with a nickel cigar in his mouth, this Marine artillery man shows the natives of this South Pacific island what a Hollywood native looks like. The natives were highly impressed; the rumor is now that there will be revolutionary change in dress styles on the Solomon Islands. The Model: Corporal Luigi J. Grasse, USMCR. Photographed by Corporal Donald L. Kettler, January 15, 1944. U.S. Marine Corps Photograph, now in the collections of the National Archives. (2016/09/13).
