Description
English: OKUNOSHIMA, JAPAN. VESICANT LABORATORY BUILDINGS, WHERE ORIGINAL RESEARCH WAS CARRIED OUT BY JAPANESE CHEMISTS. IN THE FOREGROUND IS THE ISLAND'S DRAINAGE FRESHWATER RESERVOIR. THIS IS THE SCENE AFTER THE FINAL PHASES OF "OPERATION LEWISITE" WHICH WAS CARRIED OUT UNDER THE DIRECTION OF THE DIRECTOR OF ENGINEERING EQUIPMENT, BCOF. IT INVOLVED THE DESTRUCTION OF APPROXIMATELY 22000 TONS OF POISON GAS AT THE TADANOUMI BRANCH OF THE TOKYO 2ND ARMY ARSENAL. THE GAS WAS DESTROYED BY DUMPING AT SEA, BY BURNING, AND BY BURIAL.
