NAVAL STATION ROTA, Spain (March 24, 2017) Sailors assigned to the USS Ross (DDG 71) and Naval Munitions Command, Detachment Rota maneuver a Standard Missile (SM-2) inert shape with a forklift during an ordnance loading exercise aboard Naval Station Rota, Spain on March 24, 2017. The exercise was designed to demonstrate the U.S. Navy's capability to load ordnance onto naval vessels in non-traditional locations, and is second in a series of expeditionary weapons loading events planned for the next year in the U.S. 6th Fleet area of operations. U.S. 6th Fleet, headquartered in Naples, Italy, conducts the full spectrum of joint and naval operations, often in concert with allied, joint, and interagency partners, in order to advance U.S. national interests and security and stability in Europe and Africa.
