Description
English: 1755 gravestone at St Fergus kirkyard A gravestone into the ruined wall of the kirk in the old kirkyard of St Fergus. Dated 1755 the stone is beautifully cut and contains some of the symbols of mortality and immortality so common on Scots gravestones of this period. The flowers are opium poppies and symbolize eternal sleep. The skull, crossed femurs, hourglass and mort bell serve to remind us of our mortality. The winged soul symobolizes resurrection at the day of judgement.
