Le cimetière de Mons, dès sa création est ouvert à toutes les confessions, et, est implanté en 1784 sur le versant méridional du mont Saint-Lazare.

Il remplace dès lors les cimetières entourant les différentes églises paroissiales. Conçu comme un parc qui abrite d’ailleurs de nombreux arbres remarquables, il s’ouvre sur un portail néoclassique érigé en 1837.
