The VCP is the mechanical version of the Krebs system car with an electromagnetic gearbox whose patent was acquired by Panhard & Levassor in 1896 (patents: FR256344, GB189619774A). At the end of 1897 Adolphe Clément, then chairman of the board of directors of the new Panhard & Levassor company, asked A. C. KREBS, its managing director, to design a consumer version of his car (patents FR284596, GB189902960A). First built by P&L, Clément bought the rights to it, which he soon sold to the Scottish company Stirling. More than 500 VCPs will be built and distributed around the world: https://oldauto.wixsite.com/clement-panhard |
