English: The tombstone of Colonel Sir William Howe de Lancey (1778 – died 26 June 1815 from his wounds) was transferred from his first grave in a cemetery of Brussels to be laid in front of the British Waterloo Campaign Memorial when several Officers were reburied in its crypt in 1889. The tombstone reads : Here lie the remains // of // Colonel Sir William Howe // De Lancey // Quarter Master General // of the British Army // who was wounded at the // Battle of Waterloo // June 18 // and who died June 26 1815.Colonel de Lancey now rests in the crypt of the Memorial : ►(File:18 June 1815 – Victory at Waterloo – British Waterloo Campaign Memorial, crypt, tomb right, 6.jpg). |
