18 June 1815 – Waterloo – Mont-Saint-Jean, ''Hôpital des Anglais – Ambulance Britannique'' Museum

Summary edit

Description
English: N. Buonaparte (1769-1821) is responsible for 10,000 deaths and more than 35,000 wounded – all on that one and single day, 18 June 1815.

To look after so many casualties, all houses, farms, churches which could provide shelter were requisitioned, all the way from the battlefield to Braine-l'Alleud and Brussels. Mont-Saint-Jean Farm rose to prominence for having been selected as headquarter of the British Medical Staff, as a 1981 tablet recalls at its entrance gate : ► (File:18 June 1815 – Waterloo – Mont-Saint-Jean, Tablet.jpg).
The Hôpital des Anglais – Ambulance Britannique museum was solemnly inaugurated on June 19, 2015 by His Grace the Duke of Wellington on the occasion of the Waterloo 200 commemorations, as 2015 tablet recalls : ►(File:18 Juin 1815 – Waterloo – Mont-Saint-Jean, Tablet "Hôpital des Anglais".jpg).

The museum has been installed in the northern wing (shown), which was used for officers ; troops were taken care of in the southern wing. Incoming victims were kept waiting in the yard. Not everyone survived.
