Description
English: The silk mills in Allentown made broad silks and ribbons. In general, most of the employees were women and girls. The men worked as loom fixers and "twisters-in". The Employeed of the Weilbacher Silk Mill at Front and Gordon Streets are shown in this photograph, taken July 11, 1902. The mill was established in 1897, and employed 400. The mill specialized in the weavng of silk ribbon. The mill was torn down about 2013, today it is a grass lot.
