Description A postcard sent from Nellie Mildred "Helen" Claxton to Edgar "Ted" Claxton when they were courting, written on the back in their private cipher. Showing South Parade Pier, Southsea. The pavilion on the South Parade Pier, Southsea, England, was destroyed by fire on 19 July 1904. The pier was repaired and re-opened on 12 August 1908, and is still in use. Helen watched the fire and wrote this card on the same day.
