Description

A postcard sent to Ted Claxton, showing The Barbican, Sandwich, Kent, England. The Barbican gate is the arch on the right. It is the old toll gate which leads on to the River Stour toll bridge in the picture. The dinghy is a Kentish coble. The building to the right of the gate arch may have been a weaver's cottage; note the large window area upstairs.

Note the group of men and boys staring or grinning at the camera from the bridge. This must be a Sunday as they are dressed in their Sunday best clothes.
