Description

Rolls Royce's large car of the time, built from 1906-26, it was originally called the 40/50, from 1925, the Silver Ghost. For promotional purposes, one car was painted in aluminium paint with silver-plated fittings. The car was named the 'Silver Ghost' to emphasise its ghost-like quietness, and a plaque bearing this name adorned the bulkhead. After this the press referred to the 40/50 as the Rolls Royce Silver Ghost, and from 1925 it was officially recognised by Rolls Royce as the 'Silver Ghost', 7874 were made. Electric lights were an option from 1914 and standardised by 1919 Originally had 7036cc side valve straight 6, from 1910, 7428cc straight 6 A smaller car was introduced in 1922, the Rolls Royce Twenty. The Silver Ghost was replaced in 1926 by the Rolls Royce Phantom Engine; 7036cc Side Valve 6 cyl 7874 Rolls Royce 40/50s were built
