| Description |
English: Commander of the American Expeditionary Force (AEF) in France during World War I, General John J "Blackjack" Pershing (Center) visited Allentown on June 14th, 1922 to take part in Allentown's Flag Day celebration. Shown with Joe Hart (left), secretary of the Allentown Flag Day association, Pershing was already a life member of the Allentown Group.
Twenty years before, Hart had seen an account of an order by then-Captain Pershing issued on displaying the flag in the Philippines. He wrote Pershing asking for a copy of that order. Pershing promptly complied requesting membership and enclosed $10 to cover the fee. |
