Summary
editDescription1931 George V Combination Pillar Box and Stamp Vending Machine, Type D.jpg |
During the reign of George V a number of experimental boxes combining different functions were produced. Combination pillar boxes type D and E incorporated a stamp vending machine on one side. The vending machines were set to dispense two halfpenny stamps in exchange for one old penny. The stamps were supplied in a long, continuously wound roll. Expensive to produce, 75 type D and 50 smaller type E combination pillar boxes were made. Due to constant jamming the stamp vending machines were soon taken out of use.
