1953 Ferrari 250 MM Spyder by Vignale, chassis #0288MM.[1]
In October 1952 the Ferrari 250 MM (Mille Miglia) was displayed for the first time at the Paris Motor Show, it was derived from the one-off model 250 S which won the Mille Miglia in 1952 and replaced the Ferrari 225 S. These early Ferrari's were custom built cars. They were not mass-produced. Ferrari provided the engine and chassis, while Italian coach builders provided the body. A Total of 31 250 MMs were built, 18 closed Berlinetta bodies by Pininfarina, 1 Berlinetta body by Vignale and 12 of these open Vignale Spyders. Carrozzeria Vignale's open barchetta version was also an innovative design whose recessed headlights and side vents became a Ferrari staple for the 1950s. Most 250MMs were raced extensively by the factory and by Ferrari customers in 1953 and 1954 Engine; 237hp 3 litre V12
