Description

1961 Willys Jeep FC-170 4WD ambulance rescue truck. Originally operated by the St. George - Sutherland District of the NSW Ambulance Transport Service Board. Fibreglass body fitted by Wormald Brothers Industries of Melbourne. In 1962 all Sydney metropolitan districts of the Board were amalgamated into the Central District. In October 1965 the standard colour for NSW ambulances was changed from cream to white. This truck was the first designated rescue unit in New South Wales. Nicknamed the Q-Van, short for Res-Q Van. A second identical unit was placed into service by the Hunter District in Newcastle in 1963. Both units were replaced with Ford F-350s in 1980. Now part of the Ambulance Service of NSW historical collection. Scanned from a photo taken at the then Sydney Motor Museum in Darling Harbour.
