Summary

Description
English: The Center Square Soldier's and Sailor's monument at the time of the city's Bicentennial in 1962. In 1958, the statue on top of the monument was taken down for cleaning and repair, but it was found to be unrepairable. In 1962, a debate was being held to move the monument to West Park, but a referendum was held in November and by a 2 to 1 margin of votes it was determined to leave the monument where it was. In 1964, a replacement statue would be put on the top of the monument, where it remains today.
