Summary edit

Description

The Sunbeam Motor Car Company was established in 1905. In 1935, was taken the Rootes Group. In 1938, the name was added to their Talbot range calling them Sunbeam-Talbots. In 1954 they dropped the word Talbot, leaving just Sunbeam. The Rootes Group was taken over by the Chrysler Corporation in 1967. The Sunbeam name used until 1981. The Sunbeam Rapier was built from 1956-67. It was a sporty 2 door version of the Hillman Minx but with a grille more similar to the Singer Gazelle. The 1956 Series I was similar to the 1958 Minx with the wide oval grille and same 1390cc engine as the Minx. The 1958 Series II got the more traditional Sunbeam grille and a larger 1498cc engine. A Convertible was now available. The 1959 Series III got subtle changes; the number of horizontal bars in each of the side grilles was increased from three to four and redesigned side flash. The engine got an alloy head. The 1961 Series IIIA got the larger Alpine 1592cc engine. The 1963 Series IV got alloy side grilles, sidelights and the grille modified; lower, squarer and convex profile, same engine

The 1965 Series V looked the same but got a 1725cc engine
