Description

The Escort replaced the Anglia in 1968 and the Mk I was built until 1974 It featured the coke bottle waistline and dog bone shaped grille. Built in England and assembled in Australia and NZ. It was available in 2 or 4 door, estate and van. The Deluxe (L in Oz and NZ) got round headlights and the upmarket Super (XL in Oz and NZ) got rectangular, 1300E got a wood trim dash, the GT, extra instrumentation, Weber carb and uprated suspension. Other performance models built at the Aveley Plant were, Twin Cam, Mexico, RS1600 and RS2000 (1600 GT in Australia)
