Summary edit

Description

The Volkswagen Van was introduced in 1949, known as the Type 2 (the Beetle was the Type 1) The first generation with the split windscreen was built from 1950-67. The second generation with one piece windscreen was built from 1967-79. Models before 1971 are often called the T2a (or Early Bay), while models after 1972 are called the T2b (or Late Bay). Up until 1972, front indicators are set low on the nose rather than high on either side of the fresh air grille, these later models also got a bigger engine compartment to fit the larger 1.7- to 2.0-litre engines from the Volkswagen Type 4, and a redesigned rear end which eliminated the removable rear apron and introduced the larger late tail lights. The air inlets were also enlarged to accommodate the increased cooling air needs of the larger engines. Available as a 4 door panel van, 4 door minibus, 2 door pickup and 3 door crew cab. Westfalia built campers were also available with pop up roof, refrigerator, sink, and stove. This is one of five transporters used in the 2006 movie 'Little Miss Sunshine'
