English: Toyota started producing automobiles in 1933, originally sold under the Toyoda name, then from 1937 as the Toyota Motor Company.
The Celica was a sports coupe built by Toyota from 1971-2006. The second generation Celica was built from 1978-81 and was again available in both coupé and liftback forms. The coupe was no longer a true hardtop; both coupé and liftback had frameless door glass but featured a thick 'B' pillar. The first of the A40 Celicas, 1978-79 had round headlights and chrome bumpers on the base models (upmarket models, black rubber bumpers) The facelift model, 1979-81, had square headlights, revised tail lights and chrome bumpers with rubber protectors on the corners on base models (polyurethane black bumpers on upmarket models) Models available were ET, LT, ST, SE, XT, GT and GTV Engines; 1588cc, 1770cc, 1972cc and 2189cc Toyota Australia also manufactured Toyotas from 1963 until 2017, the Toyota Celica was built there from 1971 at Australian Motor Industries (AMI) in Port Melbourne. Only the 2.0 A40 was available there in both Coupe and Liftback forms |
