Description
English: 1989 HSV (VN) convertible, concept. Photographed at the National Holden Motor Museum, Echuca, Victoria, Australia.

Proposed to Holden Special Vehicles board of directors in May 1989, with one car to be built for the 1989 Sydney Motor Show, 25 production cars to be built in the first year, 100 production cars to be built in the second year. This concept features a specifically designed power operated roof and side glass.
  • Base vehicle: Holden Calais (VN) V8
  • Engine: 5.0-litre V8 as per HSV SV5000 (VN) with high compression pistons, specific cam shaft, intake system, headers and dual exhaust
  • Transmission: 4-speed automatic, as per SV5000 with specific calibration
  • Brakes: as per SV5000
  • Suspension: unique HSV turned springs and dampers
  • Interior: based on SV5000 with specific folding HSV seats, Momo steering wheel and full function electronics
  • Wheelbase: shortened by 140 mm (5.5 in)
  • Front doors: lengthened by 220 mm (8.7 in)
  • Windscreen: shortened by 50 mm (2.0 in)
The convertible programme was cancelled for undisclosed reasons in 1990 with only this one-off Sydney Motor Show car produced. This same car, was repainted in Holden Racing Team (HRT) livery for promotional activity in the early/mid-1990s, travelling the V8 racing circuits and automotive shows with HRT during that decade.
