Transcribed from image: "West side of Commercial St. [later 1st Ave.] between Washington and Main. Seattle 1877." Description from the same photo in the University of Washington's Asahel Curtis Collection: "Location depicted is west side between S. Washington St. and S. Main St. Original photographer unknown; copied by Theodore Peiser [10075]. Shows W. A. Jennings, groceries, the San Francisco Store (Toklas and Singerman, props.), Hall Paulson & Co., furniture, L. A. Treen, boots and shoes. According to Peiser, people standing on walk, left to right, are: (1) unknown; (2) George Reynolds; (3) Lew Parsons; (4) Jesse George; (5) unknown; (6) Melody Choir. According to Prosch, Seattle Album 1, p.22, the bystanders here are Wm. A. Jennings, Ed. Reynolds, George Finn, Frank Rummer, Melody Choir, Paul Singerman, D. B. Jackson, Bailey Gatzert and others."
