When a metal plate oscillates between the poles of an electromagnet, eddy currents are induced in the plate. According to Lenz's law, those currents create a magnetic field which opposes the field created by the motion of the plate, stopping it…

Summary edit

Description
English: When massive metal plate oscillates between the poles of an electromagnet eddy currents are induced in the plate. According to the Lenz's rule, those currents create magnetic field, which opposes to the reason for their existence and that is the motion of the plate. That is why plate stops. If the massive plate is replaced with a comb-like plate, the effect is weaker, because eddy currents are weaker. Prepared, performed and explained by Prof. Oliver Zajkov at the Physics Institute at the Ss. Cyril and Methodius University of Skopje, Macedonia.
