Operation Rising Star is an annual singing competition for military service members and their spouses in the style of American Idol. Auditions are conducted annually at military garrisons around the world and the semifinalists travel to Fort Belvoir in Virginia to compete in the final phases of the competition. Following the competition, winners record a three-song demo CD at DMI Music's Firehouse Recording Studios in Pasadena, California.
