Description
English: 25.04.2009 04838 Eilenburg, Nikolaiplatz: Stadtkirche St. Nikolai (GMP: 51.459208,12.533515). Die Nikolaikirche gehört zu den ältesten Kirchenstandorten der Umgebung. Vermutlich um 970/980 entstand an dieser Stelle der erste Kirchenbau. 1444 wurde der Bau der heutigen spätgotischen Backstein-Hallenkirche begonnen. 1945 teilweise zerstört. Chor 1961 wieder hergestellt. 1617 wurde der als Kirchenliederdichter bekannte Martin Rinckart, der in Eilenburg geboren ist, Archidiakonus an St. Nikolai.
