Deutsch: Prinzipschaltbild PC-Netzteil mit aktiver Blindleistungskompensation (englisch: PFC (Power Factor Correction)):

Um die Gesetzliche Bestimmungen bezüglich elektromagnetischer Verträglichkeit einhalten zu können ist ein Leistungsfaktor-Vorregler (englisch: Power Factor Pre-regulator) (grün) als Eingangsstufe dem eigentlichen spannungsstabilisierenden Netzteil (beige) vorgeschaltet.

Die Stromaufnahme der Eingangsstufe ist dem Sinusverlauf der Eingangsspannung nachgesteuert, so dass Verunreinigungen des Netzes durch Oberschwingungen vermieden werden.

Der Leistungsfaktor-Vorregler stellt geräteintern eine hohe Zwischenkreisspannung bereit. An dieser Zwischenkreisspannung arbeitet das nachgeschaltet Schaltnetzteil, welches ansonsten starke Oberschwingungen erzeugen würden.
