Summary

edit
Description Each year, invasive Indian mongooses cause an estimated $50 million in damages to the Hawaiian Islands and Puerto Rico by spreading disease and eating native animals and plants. The U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) Animal Plant Health and Inspection Service (APHIS) Wildlife Services (WS) researchers are developing methods to vaccinate mongooses against rabies, as well as methods to trap or lethally remove them from areas where they impact native wildlife.
