| Description | Cephalanthus occidentalis—buttonwillow. Found along streams and in wetlands throughout the eastern North America with disjunct populations throughout the American west. Most California populations grow in or near the Great Valley. California plants are often assigned to variety californicus. The seeds are a favorite food for birds and the nectar an important source of honey. The plant photographed is at Regional Parks Botanic Garden located in Tilden Regional Park near Berkeley, CA. |
