Description

Probably, Western saxifrage (Micranthes occidentalis syn. Saxifraga occidentalis), Saxifrage family (Saxifragaceae). Mill Hollow, Logan Canyon, Utah.

Here are three scapose Saxifraga species from the IF key:

Saxifraga occidentalis

- hypanthium with a free rim - ovary and capsule superior or 1/2 inferior at anthesis - leaves mostly entire - inflorescence hairs tipped with red to dark-purple - pedicels 0.5-2.5 mm - sepals spreading to reflexed - filaments 0.5-1.3 mm - Cache county, Utah

Saxifraga nidifica

- hypanthium adnate to the ovaries - ovary and capsule > 1/2 inferior at anthesis - leaves mostly entire - inflorescence hairs tipped with red to dark-purple - pedicels 0.5-2.5 mm - sepals spreading to reflexed - filaments 0.5-1.3 mm - Cache county, Utah

Saxifraga rhomboidea

- hypanthium adnate to the ovaries - ovary and capsule > 1/2 inferior at anthesis - leaves serrate to crenate-dentate - inflorescence hairs tipped with yellowish, sometimes reddish glands - pedicels 0.5-1.5 mm - sepals erect - filaments 1.2-2.6 mm - three isolated populations at N Wasatch: Cache county, Box Elder county, Salt Lake county

This one:

- hypanthium with a small rim (o) - ovary seems to be superior (o) - leaves crenate (o,r) - inflorescence hairs tippes with pink glands (o,n) - pedicels 2-7 mm (o) - sepals spreading to reflexed (o,n) - filaments about 2.4 mm (o,r) - Mill Hollow of Logan Canyon, Utah

The Mill Hollow does not belong to the three known populations of S. rhomboidea at N Wasatch.

Most features look more consistent with S. occidentalis, which however was not reported from Utah.
