Description
English: As seen in July 2015, Kitchener, Ontario's City Hall is a work of the Toronto-based architectural firm of KPMB, whose winning entry in the 1989 competition to design the facility placed the municipal offices (right, background) amidst a sprawling, ultramodern Civic Square (foreground) intended as a conscious invocation of the Ancient Greek principle of the agora as public space. The Plaza is used year-round for a variety of events, including a busy festival calendar in the summer and a public ice rink in the winter, which is situated on what at other times of the year is a reflecting pool and fountain.
