Description2017-11-05 The town of Albufeira 1813, By J. Hill.JPG |
English: A photograph of a landscape painting of Albufeira old town and Praia dos Pescadores. The painting was published by J. Hill in 1813, but the work was completed by military engineer George Thomas Landmann, who had been sent to Portugal by the Royal Academy of engineering. The composition of this painting of Albufeira was intended for the military recognition of the town following a Portuguese request for military aid, because of fear of a possible French invasion, which eventually happened. Thanks to George Thomas Landmann landscape, it is possible to see the state of Albufeira Castle 55 years after the devastating Lisbon earthquake of 1755. |
