Summary edit
Description2017 sukhasan ritual palki palanquin for Guru Granth Sahib every night, Golden temple Amritsar.jpg |
English: Harmandir, also spelled Harimandir or Harmandar, and called Darbar Sahib or Golden Temple of Amritsar is the most sacred site in Sikhism.
Sukhasan is the night ritual, where the scripture is taken out of the sanctum and to its bedroom for rest. A palki is elaborately prepared and decorated with bed and pillows, covered with flower garlands. The scripture is carried on head, into the decorated palanquin. The palanquin is then carried on shoulders with people chanting together with hands clasped in namaste pose. The scripture is treated like a living person, a Guru. After it arrives near the Akal Takht bedroom, it is carried on head, tucked into the bed with pillows. The scripture rests for about 4 to 5 hours every night. |
