English: View of the 10th or 11th-century sarcophagus (or cenotaph) of Charles of Lower Lorraine and a stone altar of Saint Gertrude in the so-called small crypt in the Basilica of Saint Servatius in Maastricht, Netherlands. The authenticity of the grave of the pretender for the crown of France in this church was confirmed in 1988 by the discovery of the 11th-century grave cross of provost Humbertus which mentions the grave. However, according to the Latin inscription above the sarcophagus he was buried in 1001, which is nine years after his death. It is therefore possible that the sarcophagus is a cenotaph. The top of the altar of Saint Gertrude is modern. Normally, the small crypt cannot be accessed but at this special occasion, the 2018 Heiligdomsvaart (Relics Pilgrimage), it is open for pilgrims to visit. The history of the Heiligdomsvaart goes back to the Middle Ages. The first 'modern' version of this seven-yearly, ten-day catholic pilgrimage took place in 1874. The 2018 Heiligdomsvaart was the 55th modern edition.
