English: "Une commande de 2 prototypes du Mystère IV N fut alors passée officiellement le 1er mai 1954. Celle du n°2 sera résiliée 4 mois plus tard.
Il est équipé du réacteur Rolls-Royce Avon RA 7 doté de postcombustion. Le fuselage est modifié par rapport au Mystère IV B (l'entrée d'air est placée en dessous du fuselage) car il est prévu de loger le radar dans le nez à la manière du F 86D américain. Bénéficiant ainsi de nombreux composants de cellules et d'équipements des Mystère IVA et Mystère IV B en cours de développement, le Mystère IV N 01 a effectué un 1er vol le 19 juillet 1954 à Melun-Villaroche, piloté par Gérard Muselli. La vitesse de Mach 1,1 fut passée au cours du 13éme vol. La célébrité de cet appareil, hormis le fait qu'il est le seul et unique exemplaire de son type, lui vient du record de vitesse pure féminin, obtenu par Jacqueline Auriol le 31 mai 1955 à l'occasion du 87éme vol, avec 1151 km/h, sur une base de 12.300 km, détrônant ainsi celui de l'américaine Jacqueline Cochrane. Le 18 juin 1955, au 98éme vol, Gérard Muselli est accompagné par un passager de marque, le ministre des Travaux Publics, le général Edouard Corniglion-Molinier; ils effectuent le trajet du Bourget à Nice, soit 789 km, à 982 km/h de moyenne. C'est finalement le Vautour de la SNCASO qui est choisi par l'Armée de l'Air qui bénéficie par ailleurs, dans le cadre de l'OTAN, de 60 avions F 86K à des conditions très avantageuses. Grâce à son excellente stabilité en vol et à son installation en biplace, il devient un parfait avion de servitudes.
