Summary
editDescription2021 Montezuma Castle, cavates 3.jpg |
English: Montezuma Castle National Monument features cliff dwellings of the Ancient pueblo Sinagua peoples, in the Verde Valley of eastern Yavapai County, Arizona. The 8th-century archaeological site is on the National Register of Historic Places in Yavapai County. The soft limestone of the Verde Formation at Montezuma Castle National Monument is easily weathered by wind and water, causing the formation of alcoves and caves. When these are enlarged or modified by people to live in or store things, they are called "cravates". |
