Summary
editDescription2023-07-22 - Cirrocumulus lacunosus - solitary cloud - zenith - DSG1929-1.jpg |
English: A solitary Cirrocumulus lacunosus cloud nearing zenith (at top of image) is almost completely riddled with the namesake "hollows", typically arranged in a honeycomb pattern. This image is aligned due west, the cloud overhead moving eastward, the larger hollows to the right and smaller hollows to the left. Image taken on 2023-07-22, 08:52 from the Aplerbecker Mark, Aplerbeck, Dortmund, Germany. This cloud formation is rather rare and is attributed to a cool layer of the atmosphere interacting with a warmer overlying layer.

Technical Details / Making of this Image
editExtended colour rendering
edit- Extended colour rendering: This is a true ProPhoto RGB colour space image. All editing has proceeded on a 16-bit basis, based on the original 14-bit RAW file. The JPEG file format definition does allow a 16-bit colour space, but only the 8-bit variant has ever been realised in available image rendering software. Thus this image must be saved as an 8-bit JPG file, nevertheless retaining the ProPhoto RGB colour space.
If, as opposed to most modern equipment, either your computer or your screen's colour rendering hard-/software does not support 8-bit ProPhoto RGB JPEGs (i.e. supports only JPEGs based on the sRGB colour space), this image may appear somewhat dull both in colour and tone spectrum.
