Description
Nederlands: Geconserveerd 'paardengraf van Borgharen', gefotografeerd tijdens de tentoonstelling Maastricht 1673 - De Zonnekoning verovert de stad over het Beleg van Maastricht door Lodewijk XIV van Frankrijk. Het is niet zeker maar wel waarschijnlijk dat de paarden gesneuveld of door ziekte omgekomen zijn tijdens een van de belegeringen van Maastricht (1632, 1634, 1673, 1748, 1793 of 1794). Het paardengraf te Borgharen bevatte zeker 65 paardenskeletten en is daarmee een van de grootste in West-Europa. De skeletten zijn verdeeld over enkele musea: het Rijksmuseum van Oudheden in Leiden, het Maas Binnenvaartmuseum in Maasbracht, het Maastricht Museum (Centre Céramique) in Maastricht en het Archeologisch Bezoekerscentrum Kasteelhoeve Hartelstein nabij Itteren.
