Description

This is an amazing old Makua Mask was collected in 2002 after the war ended in Mozambique. It is decorated with Polychrome enamel paint and has had ears and nose tip made from a fibrous material and added possibly well after the mask was completed. The teeth are tyre rubber and the hair, possibly horse or cow tail hair is sewn on in small tufts to a cloth band. It has amazing character which has grown on me over the years. I do not know the history or function but am sure that this mask had an interesting life in Africa. It measures 36 x 33 x approx 20cm deep.
