Description

A return back to Romania just 6 months after my previous visit in September 2021. As usual, trips are to cover new lines. This trip, originally planned late 2021 was to initially cover the north east of the country. With developments in Ukraine in the weeks leading up to the trip, I changed plans around. This was largely to hand back hotel rooms booked in towns like Suceava which were close to the border and likely to be needed by refugees coming in from Ukraine. Instead, I planned to cover lines in the more central area of the country. The week was perfect in terms of weather. Dry and bright each day with a good 12 hours of daylight. Whilst spring temperatures had thawed most of the snow, there was still some remaining as seen in this photo.

First dead end branch line covered was from Brașov to Zărnești. Seen here on 23 March 2022 is former SNCF owned class X72500 3-car DMU with 725014 leading and 725013 at the rear. Operated by Regio Călători - train R11334, 06:46 Zărnești to Brașov.
