Description

A trip to Merseyside to visit the new interchange station at Headbolt Lane. Opened in October 2023, this effectively replaces the former interchange at Kirkby between the diesel worked line from Wigan Wallgate and the Merseyrail system. Kirkby (as with nearby Ormskirk) are unique insofar that a through line was broken into two with buffer stops on each line with a few walking distance. Headbolt Lane is no difference in this way and the line is now severed here instead. Headbolt Lane provides better bus interchange especially to Skelmersdale. The track layout has been future proofed for an extension gto Skelmersdale if ever funding becomes available.
