English: Bruce Cook, Landsat 9 deputy project scientist, and Mike Alonzo, a post-doctoral researcher at NASA Goddard, examine aerial photos of Alaskan forests from the 1980s. Using aerial photos, measurements using laser instruments and the long Landsat data record, NASA scientists can estimate how much carbon our nation’s forests hold and predict what differences climate change will bring. Landsat is a joint NASA / U.S. Geological Survey program. www.nasa.gov/landsat
